UPDATED: A chain of self-pour wine bars is planning to open a new branch in The Lanes.
Vagabond, owned by Majestic Wines, wants to open its first branch south of London in the former Browns bar in Duke Street.
The unit’s landlord, Gar Hine Cheung, the former owner of Gars Restaurant, has applied to change the layout of the venue.
Brighton and Hove News understands while his name is on the application, the operator of the bar will be Majestic Wines, under its Vagabond brand.
He has not asked to change the hours or conditions.
Vagabond first opened in Fulham in 2010 and now has 12 outlets in London and one in Birmingham.
Each branch features self-pour wine machines, which allow customers to choose measures ranging from tasters to full glasses.
They also have a kitchen offering a menu of small plate, tapas style dishes.
The layout changes requested include reducing the front of house licensed area on the ground floor, moving the bar and creating a small new licensed area on the first floor.

Good luck in their new venture. The previous establishment was always a pleasurable and high quality experience.
Can’t wait for the opening night.
Looking forward to that
