A burglar has been jailed for a break in that caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage to a family business in Brighton.
Ricky Jones, 44, smashed his way into Nine Rolls, in Duke Street, a fortnight ago and stole a till with just £20 in it. Two days later he was sent to prison.
Sussex Police said: “A burglar who caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage in order to access a till containing just £20 has been jailed.
“Ricky Jones forced entry to Nine Rolls, in Duke Street, Brighton, by smashing the glass front door.
“He then snatched the till containing a small float and ran off.
“The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday 17 June but Jones was swiftly identified through CCTV inquiries, leading to his arrest.
“The 44-year-old, of no fixed address, was charged with burglary and remanded in custody.

“He appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Friday 19 June where he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment.
“However, the offence activated a suspended sentence for a previous conviction, taking Jones’s total prison term to 14 months.
“He was also fined £239 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £154 victim surcharge.”

How will he pay that if in Prison, how does it work.
Usually it’s taken off their income; in his case, whatever benefit he would have been entitled to. It can also be linked to any income in the future as well, if his financial situation improves.
