Brighton and Hove Albion beat Luton Town 6-0 in their Women’s FA Cup fourth round tie at Sharpenhoe Road this afternoon (Sunday 14 January).
But the home side held out for more than half an hour before Brighton were able to open their account.
Veatriki Sarri scored the first goal on 34 minutes – although it wasn’t her first attempt of the match.
The next shot came from Pauline Bremer whose close-range effort was saved but moments later, in the 39th minute, Bremer played the ball to Vicky Losada who headed home.
Albion were quicker off the mark after the break, as half-time sub Maisie Symonds fed the ball to Tatiana Pinto for the first of two goals from the Portugal midfielder.
Bremer was the provider again eight minutes later and this time Elisabeth Terland finished the move to make it 4-0.
Pinto headed in her second goal on 72 minutes after a corner, from a cross played in by Losada.
And there was time for a sixth, with just a few minutes left on the clock, as Bremer went from provider to scorer, finishing from a tight angle.
Going into the game, Luton were the lowest-ranked team still in the tournament, playing in the Eastern Region Women’s League, in the fifth tier.
Their cup run ended in emphatic fashion against a Brighton side who may have taken a little time to warm up but, once they found their stride, proved simply too hot to handle.
Albion are in the last 16 and will find our who they face next when the fifth round draw is made tomorrow evening.
