Motorcyclist suffers serious injuries in coast road crash

The A27 was closed after a “serious” crash near Falmer early this morning (Saturday 13 September),

The crash happened between 4am and 4.30am, according to National Highways.

The road was closed in both directions as a result while the emergency services worked at the scene.

The eastbound side, heading from Falmer to Lewes, reopened at about 7am, National Highways said.

But the westbound side of the road remained closed from the Ashcombe roundabout, at Kingston, to the Drove Road turn-off, at Falmer.

Sussex Police advised drivers to avoid the area.

The westbound side of the road was expected to be reopened by lunchtime.

I pity you that you think that someone’s life has been lost and the authorities are doing a thorough investigation into the circumstances. No doubt you would complain if they didn’t. I only hope that nothing like this befalls you or a loved one. My condolences to all concerned.

I’m not sure you do appreciate the work that has to go into getting a road functional again after a fatality. John, your comment is incredibly disrespectful. When there has been a fatality, the police must treat the scene with the utmost care to preserve evidence and establish what happened. Roads reopen only when it is safe and proper to do so. A few hours of traffic disruption is nothing compared to a lost life and a family’s grief.
