A man smashed a wine bottle over a doorman’s head on Brighton seafront, a court was told.

Sulayman Sarr, 36, of Whitehawk Road, Brighton, was charged with wounding Thomas Coker, known as Little T, with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm (GBH).

Sarr appeared before District Judge Adrian Turner at Brighton Magistrates’ Court where the defendant was said to have left Mr Coker with a small but deep wound.

The court was told that the alleged offence happened on Sunday 5 October near Volks bar and club, in Madeira Drive.

Brian Shaw, defending, said that Sarr had claimed to be acting in self-defence.

Sussex Police said: “Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious altercation in Marine Parade, Brighton.

“On Sunday 5 October, just before 3pm, it was reported that the victim was walking along Marine Parade, near to the gym, when a man with a glass bottle struck him on the head.

“An altercation took place and the victim, a 40-year-old, from Brighton, sustained a serious head injury.

“Sulayman Sarr, 36, of no fixed address, was arrested later that day and charged with causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) and wounding with intent.

“He appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 8 October and was remanded in custody. His next hearing is scheduled for Tuesday 11 November.

“It’s believed that further people may have witnessed the incident and could assist with ongoing inquiries.

“If you have information and have not yet spoken to police, we ask you come forward and make a report.

“You can do this online or by calling 101, quoting reference 734 of 05/10.”

The district judge set a trial date of Wednesday 25 February next year.

He was caught a couple of years ago for similar: But it’s OK – he was severely punished by the courts with a harsh ….. (checks notes) … community order……

Sulayman Sarr was spotted in Brighton’s West Street and arrested.

The 34-year-old admitted possessing an offensive weapon.

Sarr, of South Coast Road, Telscombe Cliffs, also pleaded guilty to affray for using or threatening unlawful violence towards another person, causing fear for their personal safety.

Both offences happened in Brighton on January 2.

Sarr was sentenced last month by Brighton magistrates and was given a community order to run until December 6, 2024.
