A man from Hove has been given a suspended prison sentence for his threatening and abusive behaviour.
Steven Welch, 46, of Harmsworth Crescent, in Hangleton, admitted the charge when he appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court.
Welch was also made the subject of a restraining order banning him from contacting Jamie and Sarah Porter.
A charge of harassing Jamie Porter was withdrawn. Welch was alleged to have threatened to punch him, rip him up, carve him and kill him on Tuesday 28 October.
He used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with the intention of causing Mr Porter to fear that he would be attacked, the court was told.
Welch was sentenced to eight weeks in jail suspended for a year, with the death threats given as the reason for imposing a prison term.
The court made Welch the subject of a 12-month supervision order.
He was also ordered to undergo treatment for his drink problem over the coming year with CRI (Crime Reduction Initiatives) under the direction of the probation service.
He was told to pay £80 compensation and £85 court costs, to be deducted from his benefits.
