Brighton nightclub to breathalyse customers

A fight which started on the dancefloor at Shooshh ended in a street brawl in which a teenager’s jaw was broken.

ShooshhPolice tonight launched a witness appeal to the attack, which happened in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The incident began at about 3.30 am at the club in Kings Road Arches, Brighton, when a fight between two groups of men took place on the dance floor.

The fight broke up and about 15 minutes later both groups left Shoosh and made their way to the southern end of East Street near to Platinum Lace. There was then a further altercation between them during which several men were injured.

One man, an 18-year old from south east London, sustained a broken jaw for which he was treated at the Royal Sussex County Hospital and later discharged.

A 31-year old man from Saltdean was arrested later the same day and after being interviewed was bailed until 24 May while enquiries continue.

Detective Constable Steve Amner said: “We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the fight in Shoosh and/or the fight which took place in East Street shortly afterwards.

“Please contact us via 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call us on 101, quoting serial 188 of 11/4. You can also call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Shooshh last week became the first Brighton nightclub to breathalyse clubbers if they appeared to be too drunk when entering, with those more than twice the drink driving limit turned away.

Gets worse every week and as i always say ‘eventually everywhere becomes the same’…i’m a Brightonian who now lives in one of the Brighton villages that surround the city which i still call a town (a Brighton thing)
in the 80’s90’s there wasn’t groups of cars flying into town from about 8pm onwards full of lads from London so the trouble was negligible because most people knew each other or someone in another group or the handbags at dawn was sorted by the doorman…now Brighton has become like London and if i was to see what London will be like in 10 yrs i’ll goto New York..this need special policing which we don’t have the funds for and as time goes on will get worse just by the very nature of ‘we’re from The Smoke we’ll teach you “Fam”‘….expect more deaths on the streets of Brighton just like when i used to read my pals South London Gazette years ago…it all becomes the same
