Police donations support LGBT organisations in Brighton and Hove

Sussex Police has donated a total of £1200 to three organisations supporting LGBT communities within the city.

Sussex police LGBT donation
Allsorts, Rise, and Older and Out each received a donation of £400 which comes from the Police Property Act Fund (PPAF), made up of monies received by the police from property confiscated by order of court and then sold.

Older and Out runs a monthly meeting for anyone over the age of 50 who identify as part of the LGBT community.

Jules Dienes, who helps run the scheme, said: “Older and Out offers a community space where individuals can seek support and advice, make friends and join in a whole variety of activities and events. This money will help to provide lunch for those attending the group over the coming months and we are extremely grateful for the donation.”

Val Brown, who attends the monthly meets which take place at Somerset Day Centre on the second Friday of each month, added: “The group offers those who can sometimes feel isolated the opportunity to get out and meet up with others. We even have a couple of members now coming along from as far afield as Eastbourne and Hastings.”

Reuben Davidson from Allsorts said: “This money will be put to good use in helping to support a number of activities that we currently run for young LGBT people within Brighton and Hove. Donations such as these go a long way in boosting the work that we do.”

Chief Superintendent Nev Kemp, who presented the cheques, said: “It is a real honour to be able to hand over some money to such worthwhile causes. The police have come a long way in terms of supporting the LGBT community in Brighton and Hove, and I hope that these donations will help towards improving the services that the city has to offer.”

Perhaps if they had donated it to a Homeless Charity it might help rid the streets of The Hundreds of Homeless thereby making there job easier.
