Children of murdered Brighton woman pay tribute

The three children of a woman found dead in her Brighton home early on Saturday have paid tribute to her.

The parents of Pauline Jenkins, 46, of Rosebery Avenue, Woodingdean, said that she was “a much-loved daughter, sister and mother”.

A 46-year-old man was arrested at the house on suspicion of murder after Ms Jenkins was found dead at her home at 7am on Saturday.

A first post-mortem examination failed to establish the cause of death.

Further tests have been carried out with a toxicologist being asked for help.

Her family said: “Pauline was a much-loved daughter, sister, and mother and we are all still in shock after her sudden death.

“She will be sorely missed by all of the family and will always be in our hearts.”

Her three children said: “Our mum had lots of friends that all loved her very much.

“It all came as a shock and we are all devastated.

“We love our mum and we always will.

“Us and the family will never forget her.

“She will be in our hearts forever.”

Detective Chief Inspector Nick May, of the Sussex Police Major Crime Branch, said that he and his team had been trying to form a picture of what happened in Ms Jenkins’s house in the time leading up to her death.

He said: “During our inquiries we have established that the deceased and suspect are known to each other.

“Neighbourhood policing teams are in the area making door-to-door inquiries and speaking to local people.

“We are also still appealing for anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the area in the hours before the woman was found dead to contact police.

“Officers are supporting her family through this difficult time and our thoughts are with them as the investigation continues.”

Detectives must decide whether to charge or release the suspect by 7pm today or apply to magistrates for more time to question him.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sussex Police on 0845 6070999 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
