A Brighton man has appeared before magistrates charged with robbery at the Halifax bank branch in George Street, Hove.

Roy Bartup, 57, of Natal Road, Brighton, was released on bail at Brighton Magistrates’ Court this morning (Monday 28 February).

He must return to court on Monday 7 March.

He was brought before magistrates accused of the hold up which happened just before 2pm on Friday (25 February).

He is alleged to have claimed to have had a weapon in his jacket and to have ordered staff to hand over money.

An unknown sum of money was handed over and the suspect fled carrying an orange carrier bag.
