Brighton and Hove fire crews were called out to three fires, two lift rescues and a flood at the weekend.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters from Brighton, Roedean and Hove attended a fire at a residential property in North Road, Brighton.

“A fire had started on the third floor and there was heavy smoke.

“Two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet and a positive pressure ventilation fan was used.

“All persons were accounted for.”

They were called out to the fire just after 11pm on Saturday night (11 November).

Earlier the same day, shortly after 11am, the fire service said: “Crews from Hove and Brighton attended a small fire at a property in Seafield Road, Hove.

“Firefighters made the property safe and a home safety visit was undertaken.”

And just before 7pm, “Roedean firefighters attended a van fire in Walesbeech Road, Saltdean”, the fire service said, adding: “Firefighters used one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.”

At lunchtime on Saturday, crews rescued three people from lifts at two properties.

The fire service said: “Brighton firefighters attended a property in Tivoli Crescent, Brighton, following reports of people trapped in a lift. Firefighters released two people from the lift.

“Crews from Brighton attended a property in Portland Road following reports of a person shut in a lift. One person was released.

“At 11:21am firefighters from Hove attended a flood at a property in First Avenue, Hove.

“Firefighters isolated the leak and salvage work was undertaken. Firefighters also carried out a home safety visit.”

In the early hours of Sunday morning (12 November), crews from Roedean and Lewes supported Sussex Police at the Palace Pier, Brighton, “after a person had become trapped in the structure under the pier”, the fire service said, adding: “Crews liaised with the police and coastguard and provided assistance with direct access and lighting.”

He was brought ashore by the Brighton RNLI lifeboat crew.
