Three 16-year-olds, including a girl from Hove, have been arrested after a man was stabbed during an armed robbery at a post office in Brighton.

Two other teenagers had already been arrested by detectives investigating the robbery at Lower Bevendean Post Office, in Leybourne Parade, Bevendean.

One of them, an 18-year-old man from Brighton, was held after a car chase ended in a crash in Peacehaven almost a fortnight ago.

A 35-year-old cashier was treated in hospital for three stab wounds to his leg as the robbers stole cash and cigarettes from the post office and convenience store on Wednesday 16 January.

Sussex Police said this morning (Monday 4 February): “Sussex Police have arrested three further suspects in connection with a Brighton post office robbery.

“Officers arrested a 16-year-old boy from Croydon at a Hove hotel on Tuesday (29 January). He was arrested on suspicion of robbery and grievous bodily harm with intent and has been released on bail until Tuesday 26 February.

“Officers then conducted arrests at a property in Hove on Thursday (31 January) where a further two suspects were discovered.

“A 16-year-old boy from Mottingham, London, was arrested on suspicion of robbery and was released on bail until Sunday 24 February.

“A 16-year-old girl from Hove was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery. She was released on bail until Wednesday 27 February.”

Detective Constable Scarlett Millar said: “Thanks to the information provided by diligent members of the public we have been able to extensively progress this investigation.

“We are still urging anyone with any further information on the robbery of the post office to come forward and make contact with us.

“If anyone has information regarding the collision or the post office robbery, please report online or call 101, quoting Operation Fleece.”
