A man trading illegally on Brighton seafront has been fined mor than £500 by magistrates.

Anthony Harnwell invited members of the public to use his bike to try to cycle in a straight line.

Harnwell of Bayliss Road, London, was offering cash incentives on the seafront for people to try cycling a distance of five metres.

But he had adapted the bike, making it almost impossible to do so.

At Brighton Magistrates’ Court Harnwell was fined £525 with £350 costs for trading without a licence.

He was spotted by Brighton and Hove City Council seafront officers on the south side of Madeira Drive opposite the Sealife Centre.

They warned him that he could be prosecuted but he returned later the same day.

He failed to appear in court and  was convicted in his absence.

cant beleive that the bike guy was banned from entertaining people,he told and showed everyone that the bike wasnt easy to ride but thats why everyone had a go because it was good entertainment value and on a few occasions i saw a few people collect there 10 pounds for sucessfully riding it,brighton council shame on you for penalising someone with the savvy to entertain the public ,unlike the pier who blatantly rip off people with there slot machines, and shame on the brighton and hove news for slandering this guy without any investigations or other peoples comments
your sloppy journalism does you no credit

Have to agree with Mike Smith on this one, couldn’t agree more with he’s comments regarding the PALACE pier.
