A sword has been found in Brighton which detectives believe was used in an attack on the seafront just under a fortnight ago.
A man’s ear was almost completely severed in the attack which happened in the early hours of Saturday 16 June.
The injured man was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and released after treatment.
Sussex Police said that the sword was found among builders’ materials just east of the Burger King in Madeira Drive. The sword has a 2ft-long blade and a white ornamental handle.
Officers were called to Madeira Drive just after 4.20am on Saturday 16 June to reports of a man swinging a weapon that looked like a machete.
A few minutes later a taxi driver flagged down officers by St Peter’s Church and they arrested a man who was in the taxi.
A 19-year-old man from London who was arrested shortly after the attack on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm was bailed until Friday 10 August while the investigation continues.
Sussex Police said that they believed that the attack happened between 4.10am and 4.35am in Madeira Drive or Marine Parade.
