A woman was raped in the toilets at a Brighton pub at the weekend.

The victim, a 24-year-old woman from Brighton, was in the Fishbowl pub in East Street on Friday night (27 June) with a friend.

When she went to the toilet she was raped by a man she didn’t know.

The rape is believed to have taken place in the early hours of Saturday morning (28 June) between 1.30am and 3am.

Detective Inspector Vicki Harris said: “The victim is obviously very distressed by what happened and we are giving her support by specially trained officers.”

The suspect was described as being white but tanned, in his late twenties or early thirties, fairly short and with a slim build.

He was wearing a white t-shirt with the word Colombia on it and a black denim shirt open over the top. He had dark trousers and was carrying a black rucksack.

He was believed to be a Spanish speaker.

Detective Inspector Harris said: “We are appealing to anyone who saw a man matching this description in the Fishbowl or in the East Street area between 1.30am and 3am on Saturday.”

She urged anyone with information about the attack or anyone who saw anything suspicious to phone Sussex Police on 101 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk.

The rape incident allegedly happened in the male’s toilets – not the female’s, in a pub full of people, at the busiest time of the week. Take note that upstairs where the male’s toilets are the music is not loud. So no one saw a woman been pulled against her will, no one heard any screams and they were alone in the toilets long enough for the very unfortunate incident to occur? With so many lads drinking on Friday night you couldn’t be in there alone for more that a couple of minutes. Could this be one of the fastest rape in the history of rapes? I’m not saying it didn’t necessarily happen but it does sound like a mission impossible in a very busy place full of people. Rapes do happened as do false accusations.
