Gillingham 1 Brighton & Hove Albion 2

The Albion came back from behind to beat the club’s former landlords Gillingham at the Priestfield Stadium.

The hosts went ahead just after half-time, with Bradley Dack firing past Niki Maenpaa.

Dack had a chance to double the Gills lead again early in the second half but fired well over.

Adrian Colunga and Chris O’Grady had good chances for Albion but both shot wide.

Dale Stephens then scored his second pre-season goal from close range to restore parity.

But it was development squad players Joe Ward and Chike Kandi who gave Albion victory, with Ward crossing for Kandi to sweep home.

Before the end Jeffrey Monakana had the chance to increase Albion’s lead but he fired straight at Gills keeper Stuart Nelson.

Captain Gordon Greer returned for Albion after injury.

The Seagulls now take on Europa League champions Sevilla at the Amex on Sunday (2 August).
