Fatal crash witnesses urged to come forward by police
A 21-year-old woman from Newhaven died in a crash on the A23 just north of Brighton this morning (Monday 11 January).
Sussex Police urged anyone who saw the four-car crash to come forward as investigators try to piece together what happened.
The accident happened at about 4am near Pyecombe and involved a blue Volkswagen, a black BMW, a black Mitsubishi and a blue Renault.
The force said: “Sadly the driver of the Renault, a 21-year-old woman from Newhaven, was declared dead at the scene. There were no other serious injuries.
“The northbound carriage was closed while recovery work took place and a diversion was set up via the A281. The A23 fully reopened at around 10.30am.”
Sergeant Peter Verney said: “We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen what happened just prior to the collision.”
Witnesses can phone Sussex Police on 101 or email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk.
