Six fire engines were sent to a nine-storey block of flats in Brighton after reports of a burning smell inside.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue put its high rise procedures were put in place and sent the six pumps, as well as the aerial ladder platform, and the command unit to Swanborough Place, in Whitehawk, Brighton, at 1.11pm today.
Bus services were also diverted for a short time while the incident was deal with.

A fire service spokeswoman said: “The incident transpired to be a false alarm with good intent as it was found that there was no fire but the lift drive belt had overheated.
“A smell of burning on the sixth floor of the building was reported coming from within the block of domestic flats.
“Following a thorough inspection the crews left the incident with the lift engineer, due to there being no fire, at 1.55pm.”
