Crash closes A23 on the edge of Brighton just before rush hour

Police are trying to trace a driver who failed to stop after a five-car crash on the A23 close to the Patcham roundabout.

Sussex Police said today (Monday 10 July): “Police are seeking witnesses and trying to trace the driver of a small beige vehicle which was involved in a five-car crash on the A23 southbound at Brighton on Friday evening (7 July) but which failed to stop.

“The crash occurred at around 6.10pm some 400 metres north of the Mill Road roundabout and the A27. Several vehicles were forced to swerve and collided with each other.

“A black Renault Clio driven by a 27-year-old man from Milton Keynes overturned. He and his front seat passenger, a 23-year-old woman from Northampton, sustained minor injuries for which they were treated at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton.

“The other cars involved were a white Kia Sportage, driven by a 34-year-old man from Brighton, a grey Volkswagen Scirocco driven by a 55-year-old man from Southwick and a black Audi A4, driven by a 42-year-old woman from Hassocks.”

PC Nathan Langley, of the East Sussex Roads Policing Unit, said: “We’re keen to speak to the driver the small beige vehicle seen in the vicinity at the time of the crash.

“We’d also like to hear from anyone who saw what happened or who noticed the beige vehicle being driven shortly beforehand and whom we’ve not yet spoken to.”

Anyone with information is asked to email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk, report details online or phone 101, quoting serial 1222 of 07/07.
