Students at a secondary school in Hove commemorated those who lost their lives in war including two former pupils who died in the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
At Cardinal Newman Catholic School on Friday (10 November) students observed a two-minute silence at 11am.
The Last Post was sounded by trumpet players around the school, each accompanied by a uniformed cadet.
The school said: “Although we remember all victims of war, students were reminded to keep a special place in their hearts for Sean Reeve and Jonathan Bracho-Cooke, two former students who were killed in Afghanistan and Iraq respectively.
“The cadets and other selected students have also been selling poppies during their break time over the past few weeks to raise money for the Royal British Legion.
“These included fabric poppies made by year 10 fashion and textiles students that were put together using fabric scraps and upcycled components.”
Toby Grout, the only marine cadet from the school, said: “It was a privilege to be asked to such an important event.”
Air cadet Lewis Franklin said: “We are all very proud to volunteer for something like this. It is important to remember.”
The school added: “Cardinal Newman students have also marked this month of remembrance with a special Remembrance Book.
“Students and staff are invited to record those people special to them who have passed away so that they can be added to the book which is held in the school chapel for the month of November.
“A page of the the Remembrance Book is turned each day and the book is offered up at each Mass service throughout the month.”
On Armistice Day (Saturday 11 November) a two-minute silence was observed – among other places – in the pod of the i360.
The attraction hosted 65 cadets, veterans and military personnel who held the traditional silence 450ft above Brighton seafront.
On Saturday evening the i360 was lit poppy red as a way of marking remembrance.
