Man found in water at Brighton Marina named by police

Oluwademilade Adekanmbi

The man found in the water at Brighton Marina has been named today (Tuesday 26 February) by police.

Oluwademilade Adekanmbi

Oluwademilade Adekanmbi, 20, was a third-year computer science student at Sussex University who lived in Brighton.

He previously lived in Lagos in Nigeria.

A search started in the early hours of Saturday (23 February) after reports of a body in the water near Victory Mews.

Mr Adekanmbi was found on Saturday afternoon.

Sussex Police said this afternoon: “The body of a man found in the water at Brighton Marina on Saturday (23 February) has been identified as Oluwademilade Adekanmbi aged 20.

“He was from Nigeria and was studying in Brighton.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and his next of kin have been notified.”

Sussex University said: “This is extremely sad news and our thoughts are of course with Oluwademilade’s family and friends at this time.

“We are offering support to our campus community and encourage students to contact our Student Life Centre if they need support.”

It so sad that my son death came to us as a surprise. This is a young man that supposed to graduate in three months time.We hope the authority will carry out a thorough investigation so as to establish the root cause of his death. He was not probably alone at the scene of the incident. The family will like to know those who were with him and the time before he was reported drown.

Hello sir. I’m extremely saddened by the death of your son as I knew him quite well. We’re praying for God’s strength for you and the family. We his friends in Lagos would like to know if we can do anything in his honor or be able to come visit the family. Hoping to hear from you soon. Sincere condolences.

An holistic investigation must be carried out. What has the Nigerian embassy done about this? If the police authorities are not willing to investigate, an order of mandamus must be obtained against them to enforce the investigation. Who is the other man that went there with him? Why are they not investigating the identity of the other person. A lot of questions are yet unanswered. The statement of the police ruling his death as unsuspicious is preposterous and surreptitious. The coast guard present there needs to be questioned appropriately.
