Climate activists chain themselves to bank railings

Four climate activists have chained themselves to the entrance of Barclays in Hove to protest against the bank’s fossil fuel investments today.

Green party councillor David Gibson attended the Extinction Rebellion (XR) protest in George Street, along with protest band The Agitators.

XR protesters are also outside the bank’s North Street branch.

Customers were allowed access to the Hove bank from the side entrance.

Protester Nicola Harries, 67, a retired solicitor from Brighton said: “I have had to resort to chaining myself to the steps of this bank to highlight Barclays’ clear inability to break free from the fossil fuel industry. We must have planet before profit.”

If only XR (and the Greens) could come up with a practical way to migrate to sustainable energy rather than dressing up, maxing posters, and gluing or chaining themselves to various objects.

They seem to ignore the Ukrainian situation and the effect on energy prices and the need to ensure we have sufficient fuels to keep the lights and heating on.

With Russia stopping exports of oil and gas we need new sources.

You’d think they didn’t care about jobs, energy prices, and inflation in cost of food – do any of these protesters have jobs working for businesses that need to make profits to grow or pay wages?

Sadly, Peter, I think these people are just totally deluded zealots. With the situation we’re in re energy prices, COL etc, tunnel-vision protests like these are not the way to go. There must be some kind of compromise between people hurting really badly over costs, particularly energy, and this mad commitment to net zero etc, which was pencilled in before all the recent catastrophic global events.

I doubt that any of them have real jobs. You only have to look at the candidates for the Wish by-election, hardly any of whom are working in real jobs. Retirement hobbies and activism of some kind seem to be their ‘manifesto’.

More sunshine hotter days, yip climate change is comming so why does the Green Party not listen to ideas like “turning waterhall golf course into a solar farm” for one. B&H Energy COOOP, Planting trees is a great idea except it will do nothing to reverse the changes and this has been proven over and over again. Mentioned Ukraine, I have been there with aid from our city 7 times, I drive past the biggest solar farm you have ever seen and its in Ukraine. Going through 6 countries on route to Ukraine you see solar farms everywhere hence why their electric bills have not trebled like ours has… Let drive change by working solutions not shooting ourselves in the feet first….

The photograph does not look like the entrance to the branch on George Street in Hove even though, as the article states, David Gibson is in it. Looks more like North Street to me.

The climate has been changing for as long as the world has existed.

The present SCAM conveniently ignores times such as the medieval warm period, a time of plenty when global temperatures were considerably warmer than they are today.

People didn’t fry then, and they won’t now, especially as we’re in a cooling period.

There is a strong scientific consensus that the Earth is warming and that this warming is mainly caused by human activities. However some Troll who goes by the name of Jason has other ideas; lets all follow Jason!

Whatever happened to hope and optimism?
All we hear today is doom, gloom, panic, hysteria and pessimism to the point where one could be forgiven for imagining that they’re living in a real-life horror movie.
Little wonder that nearly half the nation is on ‘happy pills’ and I’m far from alone in being heartily sick of this bombardment of depressive brainwashing—GET A GRIP, EVERYONE!
The world’s not about to end any time soon and, even if it were, there’s not a damn thing that any of us can do about it because mother nature created us and all about us and, should she wish, she could just as easily destroy us.
Back in those gloomy days of 1940, when Britain stood alone against the Nazi hordes, our Government was INSPIRING us and popular songs such as ‘Who do you think you are kidding, Mr. Hitler?” lifted the nation’s morale—whateve’s gone wrong with us now?
Just remember, calm follows storms, rain follows droughts (as is happening here right now) and SNOWFLAKES rapidly melt!

Maybe if we stop having children this will save the planet?
8 billion people (so far) all giving off body heat.
This will slow down having to build more housing and we will use less energy.
This is wrote as a bit of a tongue in cheek comment but think about it.

Who’s the idiot now, Dawind? Even the pseudo-scientists behind the climate SCAM are having to admit the world’s temperature hasn’t increased during the past 15 years.
