Brighton driver pays high price for ignoring ticket

An imam sexually assaulted a young girl in Brighton over three years and today (Thursday 13 April) he was sentenced by a judge.

Abdus Sukur, 32, of Lumley Road, in Horley, travelled to Brighton between dates in 2015 and 2018 when he carried out the sex attacks on his victim in her family home while working as an imam.

Sussex Police said: “The victim, who is now in her late teens, reported the assaults to social services in 2019 and safeguarding measures were put in place while Sukur was arrested.

“He was subsequently charged with two counts of sexual assault on a child and found guilty at Hove Crown Court on Friday 17 March after a four-day trial.

“At Brighton Crown Court today, Sukur was sentenced to nine months in prison, suspended for two years.

“He was also given a ‘sexual harm prevention order’ for 10 years, significantly reducing his ability to reoffend, and placed on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.

“He has also been barred from working with children.”

Investigator Tracey Dixon said: “Abdus Sukur was a predatory offender who took advantage of the trust of his young victim and her family.

“His refusal to confess his crimes meant there was a four-day trial and I would like to thank the victim for her bravery and support in achieving this conviction.

“A dangerous individual has now been brought to justice and had strict measures put in place that will stop him causing further harm.”

So, Abdus Sukur not only sexually assaults a preteen’s Girl but then when evidence stacked up against him has the misplaced arrogance to plead not guilty and drag it out at our expense and what does he get as punishment? 9 months suspended, is this a sick joke?

I can’t believe he gets a susp3nded sentence- when her life will be impacted forever. No punishment, no deterrent and no justice.

Correct Gemma, our sentencing is ridiculous, they need to catch up with the times as these degenerates are everywhere. Modern Britain is a disgrace.

This sentence needs to be reviewed.

Apparently Keir Starmer who was Director of Public Prosecutions and on the Sentencing Council at the time, decided not all SA offences should have prison sentences.

Thank Keir for why this heinous man has been let off the hook. It is a long tradition of Labour’s to all but abolish punishment for criminality and reduce justice for victims.

        Nope it is not funny.

But it is true that between both main political parties who have run our country; labour and conservative, they are both guilty of destroying the penal system.

Labour started it off by getting rid of capital punishment in favour of life sentences instead.

The public thought that fair because most normal people do not want another person’s blood on their hands.

Only ‘life sentences’ do not mean ‘life’. A criminal guilty of the most heinous crimes can be served ‘life’ but will be and is released from prison to live amongst the community, get a new identity and live out a good proportion of their life in anonymity.

Whilst the Conservatives have made all police forces political, reduced the number of police officers tenfold and put males, even the most dangerous of them; murderers, torturers, child molesters and rapists in women’s prisons.

This man is a disgrace of the society. He has got way with a punishment which very minimal for his wrongdoings. Imagine he was in a Muslim ruling country, it would be stone to death. I have Zero sympathy for tyrant like him, who uses religious sentiment to accomplished their desire. A total disgrace.

How is this a suspended sentence? Touch a child and it should be 5 years minimum and a chemical castration. If foreign, deported.

Maybe those adverts are right about predictors not getting jail time.
