Departing MP puts house on market

Government’s handling of coronavirus crisis labelled a disaster by Brighton MP

Caroline Lucas addresses the House of Commons in 2020 from her Brighton home

Caroline Lucas has put her family home on the market, less than a month after announcing she will step down as an MP at the next election.

The Brighton Pavilion MP announced last month she would not be standing in the seat, saying she wanted to spend more time fighting for the environment.

She and her husband Richard Savage bought the five-bedroom home for just under a million pounds in July 2011 – just over a year after she was first elected.

The couple’s two children were then living with them, but as they have both now moved out, they have decided to explore moving on – although not necessarily out of Brighton.

Her spokesman said: “Regarding what comes next, she hasn’t actually got that far – the house hasn’t been sold yet so she’s still there for the meantime.

“At the moment she and her husband are testing the market, and now that both her children have moved out of the family home they feel that it’s a suitable time to be looking at all options – but nothing has been decided yet by any means.”

The listing, which Brighton and Hove News has agreed not to link to for security reasons, says the house has more than 3,000 square feet of space.

The pictures show colourful rooms filled with books and artworks from around the world – even the bathrooms.

As well as working open fireplaces, there are also solar panels on the roof.

Yesterday, the Greens announced three candidates – Siân Berry, Emily O’Brien and Daniel Rue – have been shortlisted to become the Green’s next candidate in Brighton Pavilion.

Brighton and Hove Green Party members will choose who stands, with voting due to start tomorrow (Monday 3 July).

Why is this important. Has an Mp/exMP never sold a house before?

I mean, it’s a big thing that people like to bring up when discussing or criticising the MP historically, instead of anything relating to her politics. Certainly makes it public interest because of that.

If it is a security risk to know this info they shouldn’t publish it. MPs deserve to feel secure and this article was way too detailed.

I mean, it’s not even click bait. I opened the link out of sheer curiosity there must be an actual story here that wasn’t even alluded too. Jesus wept.

It’s an example of ” Do as I say, not as I Do”.
On her website Lucas calls for affordable housing for everyone.
At the same time she is ” testing the market”.
It will be interesting to see the profit made on a home costing £1million in July 2011 ?
Good luck to Lucas, but stop being a hypocrite.

So you’re saying she should take one of the limited (almost mythical) affordable houses off the market just to make a point?

Testing the market = will someone pay my hugely inflated price, or will I begrudgingly have to take a modest reduction to the seven figure tax free equity I have in the property?

It’s a mess of a house from the pictures.

Still, half a mil increase for a socialist is a nice profit.

I heard she was donating it to the homeless or the asylum seekers she so enthusiastically talked about in parliament. 5 bedrooms and the kids have moved out. So dare I ask if any of those spare rooms have any asylum seekers in or is it all just the usual Champaign socialist nonsense?

I know the area of Brighton where she lives. Think it’s extremely unlikely house cost circa £1m in 2011. That’s more likely what it’s worth now

Yes they may getting the council houses for their children because they have got power and people who are living in Brighton hardly ever getting jobs or not good income or They are entitled for Council house , They will be removed from the council list without notifications .
And there is nobody who care because the normal people have got no power !
They should be removed without notifications because there is no one to listen to them !!! YES

I’ve been seen by my eyes and experienced it .
the guy went to MP asked help that why he and his family been removed from Council house bidding and struggling for 3 years to sort out his council house bidding problem Not yet he got helped !!!

DO YOU THINK THAT MP ARE THERE TO HELP US !!! ???
WE BEEN LIVING IN BRIGHTON FOR OVER 23 YEARS BEEN IN COUNCIL HOUSING LIST FOR OVER 12 YEARS NO HELP ? Asked the council if we are not entitled ,then we should find our way BUT THE COUNCIL WORKERS SAID YES WE ARE ENTITLED FOR THIS !!!

    NOW WE KNOW WHY !!!
BECAUSE THE PEOPLE WHO ARE IN THE COUNCIL NO MATTERS WHAT THEY DO THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO GET FIRST HELP EVEN THEY ARE NOT ENTITLED FOR THE COUNCIL HOUSE , YES ???

Sadly Brighton City if that’s what you call it. Has become over come with high rise buildings, over populated, the roads are in a poor state of repair. The Pavement’s and walk ways are covered with weeds and randomly get cleared or cleaned when the council feel like it. And all this has happened in the past 10 years and getting a whole lot worse, So you Caroline Lucas had contributed to this massively adding cycle lanes, making streets one way or no entry. Letting the highways get in a state of disrepair. And probably a 1000 other things I could Ad to the list not leaving out our famous Brighton arches and taking away our historical lamps from along Brighton promenade. Glad to say it’s the best thing that’s happened to Brighton since you and your left wing party arrived. Good bye and good riddance.

So sorry to hear she is standing down as MP.
If I could I would vote for her to be the next Prime minister!!! Good luck to her in the future. Integrity is rare!
