Jury clears police officer of attempted rape and sexual assault

Daniel Julian

A police officer who was charged with attempted rape, sex assault and another sex offence now faces a misconduct hearing despite being acquitted by a jury.

After Daniel Julian’s trial ended at Lewes Crown Court today (Friday 12 April), Sussex Police said: “Now the criminal investigation has concluded, Julian remains suspended from duty and the Professional Standards Department will progress misconduct proceedings.”

PC Julian went into a female colleague’s hotel room while they were away together on a training course in Kent.

The pair were preparing for the policing operation for the international climate conference known as COP 26 in Glasgow which took place later that year.

Both had been deployed in Brighton at different points during their police service but not at the same time and the pair were based in different areas. The identity of the 34-year-old female officer is protected by law.

Dan Julian, 46, a former blacksmith, of Church Lane, Bury, Pulborough, was arrested and charged after his colleague accused of trying to rape her.

Sussex Police said: “When the report was received, the officer was arrested and suspended from duty while an investigation was undertaken by the force.

“Charges were later authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service.

“Now the criminal investigation has concluded, Julian remains suspended from duty and the Professional Standards Department will progress misconduct proceedings.”

Detective Inspector Jennifer Pietersen said: “This has been a particularly difficult case for all involved.

“It was important that this case was decided by a jury and we are grateful to those members of the public who carefully considered all of the evidence presented before the court.

“We acknowledge and respect the decision they came to. We are aware that cases involving sexual offences impact not only the people involved within the investigation but also those reading or following the trials in the media.

“This has been a lengthy investigation and I’d like to thank all those who assisted with our inquiries and the subsequent court process for their support and patience.”

The force added: “Sussex Police will continue to encourage and support any victims of sexual offences and ensure that these cases are thoroughly investigated.

“If you or someone you know is a victim of a sexual offence, please report to police online or via 101. Always call 999 in an emergency.”

it seems almost every week that a police officer is front of the courts for rape offences.
this must be terrible for police morale and the public perception of the police as bullying deviants who abuse their powers, even over their own colleagues.
they should be exposed to the full glare of publicity as the vile miscreants that they are – unfit to mingle in decent society.
why do the police seem unable to filter the likes of Wayne Couzens and the other sexually deviant perpetrators from becoming police officers in the first place?
how can the public have any trust or faith in the police when they continually get prosecuted for rape?

Because at Police Training they acquire the total indoctrination they are Gods gift to Society, and they continue to live by that Ethos, Criminal % in General Society = 5%, criminal % within Police Ranks = 9%, check the stats, varies year by year but the Police % is skewed by the fact they only list actual convictions and NOT the % who resigned before conviction, who incidentally get to keep their TAX FUNDED PENSIONS.

So the Police arrest one of their own ask CPS to charge him which they do and a Jury of 12 “members of the public” find him not guilty how is that ” one rule for us and another for them” on this occasion the police have been open and transparent in all they have done.

I agree with you. The sleeping around starts at training college and continues in post and throughout carers. It’s well known but nothing gets done until someone cries rape. So many families are torn apart by affairs with colleagues, stalking and harrassement.

The service needs a huge overhaul and the sexualised culture needs sorting desperately.

At least they are prosecuted! Not like the 1,000’s of men who took part in the Rochdale grooming gangs and the other pimps and grooming gangs all over Great Britain who targeted 12 and 13 year old girls. That’s the great disgusting tragedy that was swept under the carpet
Get angry about that as well.
