Two flee to safety as arson attack damages Peacehaven mosque

Crimestoppers has put up a £10,000 reward after an arson attack on the mosque in Peacehaven a fortnight ago.

The charity said: “We’re offering a reward of up to £10,000 to help find the suspects responsible for setting fire to a mosque in Phyllis Avenue, in Peacehaven.

“The building was significantly damaged by the blaze which occurred during the evening of Saturday 4 October.

CCTV footage dated 04/10/25 issued by Sussex Police of one of two people they wish to identify in connection with a suspected arson attack at a mosque in Peacehaven. Officers said they are treating the fire which damaged the front entrance of the mosque and a car in Peacehaven, East Sussex, as a hate crime. Issue date: Sunday October 5, 2025. PA Photo. “People who were inside the mosque at the time of the attack managed to escape unharmed after hearing a commotion at the front door and seeing the flames.

“CCTV footage shows two people wearing masks and dark clothing who approached the front door before spraying accelerant on the entrance of the mosque and igniting a fire.

“As an independent charity, Crimestoppers is supporting the investigation by offering up to £10,000 for information we exclusively receive that leads to the conviction of anyone involved in this arson attack.

“Do you have any information about this crime? You can tell us what you know and remain 100 per cent anonymous – guaranteed. Call free on 0800 555111 or fill in our online form.”

Crimestoppers south east regional manager for Sussex, Annabelle Goodenough, said: “Crimestoppers believes everyone has the right to feel safe from crime wherever they live.

“This appalling attack on a mosque with people praying inside could have been fatal. Thankfully, no one was hurt – but it’s crucial those involved face justice.

“Our charity knows how difficult it can be to speak up about crime. If you know who was involved and don’t want to talk to the police, then Crimestoppers is here for you.

“We guarantee total anonymity to everyone, meaning that when you contact us via our website or on the phone, we never ask for any of your personal details.

“We only want information about the crime and then you’re done. Professional staff at our charity’s UK Contact Centre will ensure you can never be identified before passing on what you tell us to be investigated by law enforcement.

“Thousands of people contact Crimestoppers every day, for which we are grateful. We don’t know who you are due to anonymity but the information you give us stops crime and ensures justice for victims and their families.”

I thought they made arrests for this?

Maybe they were the wrong people? Maybe there were more people involved and those they arrested aren’t giving them up?

Sussex police are useless you say? What a surprise.
