Badgers Tennis Club is celebrating after three juniors from the Brighton outfit smashed their way to victory in the prestigious Play Your Way to Wimbledon tournament.
River Isaac, 13, Betsy Toyne, 14, and Scarlett Miller, 12, took the top three spots in the under 14s regional competition held at the West Worthing Tennis Club.
Betsy also won the under-18s doubles with a fellow Sussex County player Roseanna Fergie.
The girls, all members of Badgers, in Kemp Town, won their first round matches and then joined 12 other regional finalists.
River, who attends Dorothy Stringer School, and Betsy, a pupil at Roedean, will now play in the national finals on the world-famous grass courts in early August.
River said: “I’m so excited to get the chance to play at Wimbledon. My ambition is to become a professional tennis player so this will give me a taste of what it might be like.
“The coaches and everyone who supports us at Badgers have been incredible. None of us could have done this without them.”
Betsy, who started playing at Badgers when she was seven, also has her sights on life on tour as a tennis pro and hopes to gain a scholarship to an American Ivy League college to further her tennis dreams.
She said: “Badgers has been part of my life growing up and now I will be playing at Wimbledon. Hopefully not for the last time!”
Badgers head coach Jon Miller added: “I am so impressed by how much work and dedication our juniors put in and River, Betsy and Scarlett have done incredibly well.
“We are only a small club but we have a fantastic amount of talent, especially in the junior section.
“Grassroots tennis is vital and we are always looking out for ways to get the local community involved especially with children who may not get the opportunity to try tennis.”
