Awesome New Zealand band The Beths to return to Brighton

Hats off yet again to Andy and his team at Love Thy Neighbour promoters and label as they have sweet talked my fave Kiwi high energy guitar act The Beths to return to Brighton as part of a 24-date European tour.

The word is out on The Beths, as they are now playing at the Concorde 2 having previously performed at more compact Brighton venues over the past few years. They will be rockin’ on up on Tuesday 5th April 2022 – Secure your tickets HERE, HERE or HERE or from Resident music.

This New Zealand four-piece channel their long-time friendship into high-energy guitar pop with a smart lyrical bite. Guitarist, lead vocalist, and primary songwriter Elizabeth Stokes and guitarist Jonathan Pearce attended high school together before meeting up with long-time mates bassist Benjamin Sinclair and drummer Ivan Luketina-Johnston at the University of Auckland, where all four studied jazz. After gigging together in a variety of configurations, everything clicked, and The Beths were born.

Their debut 5-track EP, 2016’s ‘Warm Blood’, (which you can purchase/listen to HERE) overflows with explosive guitar riffs and infectious indie-rock hooks. Produced by Pearce and featuring all four members on joyful vocal harmonies that recall the best 60’s pop.

Their terrific 10-track debut album, ‘Future Me Hates Me’, (which you can listen to HERE) also produced by Pearce, is full of up tempo pop-rock songs with bright, indelible hooks and was one of the Brighton & Hove News ‘Top 50 Albums of the Year in 2018’ – see the full list HERE.

The Beths orange vinyl edition of their ‘Jump Rope Gazers‘ album (click on pic to enlarge!)

Their intriguingly titled 2020 follow-up album ‘Jump Rope Gazers‘ was every bit as enthralling as their debut and like the group’s earlier music, the album tackles themes of anxiety and self-doubt with effervescent power-pop choruses and rousing backup vocals, zeroing in on the communality and catharsis that can come from sharing stressful situations with some of your best friends. Not surprisingly was also included in the Brighton & Hove News ‘Top 50 Albums of the Year in 2020’ – see the full list HERE.

The Beths were last performing live in Brighton on 29th August 2019 – Read our review HERE.

You can further listen to The Beths material HERE and find out more about the band HERE.
