Brighton and Hove Albion go to Sheffield United in FA Cup 4th round

Brighton and Hove Albion will be on the road again in the FA Cup as they were drawn away to Premier League strugglers Sheffield United in the fourth round.

Albion travelled to Stoke where they overcame the Potters 4-2 in the third round on Saturday (6 January) while the Blades beat Gillingham 4-0 at the Priestfield Stadium on the same afternoon.

The Seagulls last played the Blades in the FA Cup back in 1987 when the two Second Division sides – now the Championship – drew 0-0 at Bramall Lane in the third round.

The replay at the Goldstone Ground was one of Alan Mullery’s last games in charge, with United winning 2-1.

Two months ago, the Blades picked up one of their nine points this season with a 1-1 draw at the Amex.

Three weeks after their FA Cup clash, on Sunday 18 February, the sides are due to meet again in the steel city for a Premier League fixture.

Before their FA Cup tie at the end of this month, Albion face Wolves in the Premier League on Monday 22 January.

The fourth round draw sends Vanarama National League South side Maidstone to Sky Bet Championship promotion chasers Ipswich. Maidstone are the lowest-ranked side left in the competition, having beaten Stevenage 1-0 in the third round on Saturday.

Holders Manchester City are due to travel to Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Table-topping Liverpool host either Norwich City or Bristol Rovers, having beaten Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium yesterday.

National League Eastleigh were also in the draw after earning a replay against League Two Newport. The winners of that tie will go on to host Manchester United after they vanquished Wigan Athletic 2-0 this evening. League Two Wrexham will be away at Championship side Blackburn Rovers.

There will be more all-Premier League ties with Chelsea at home to Aston Villa and Fulham facing Newcastle United.

Bournemouth will host Swansea while the winner of Crystal Palace and Everton will be at home to Luton Town or Bolton Wanderers.

West Ham United and Nottingham Forest could also meet in round four if they come through their respective replays against Bristol City and Blackpool.

Brentford or Wolverhampton Wanderers will travel to West Bromwich Albion while Championship leaders Leicester City will be at home against either Hull City or Birmingham City.

There will be all-Championship ties between Watford and Southampton, Sheffield Wednesday and Coventry City with Leeds United at home against Plymouth.
