A man is due in court charged with slashing the face of one man with a knife and attacking another in Brighton at the weekend.
Sussex Police said: “Charges have been authorised following a knife incident in Sillwood Street, Brighton.
“On Saturday 27 June at around 6pm, reports to police stated that two local men had been injured after being approached by a man who was carrying a knife.
“One of the victims, aged 29, sustained a slash injury to his face, and a second man was also assaulted. Both attended hospital for treatment and have since been discharged.
“During the incident, the man was also reported to have attempted to take a pedestrian’s dog.
“Members of the public intervened, preventing him from doing so, and detained him until police arrived a short time later.
Toby Sousa, 33, of no fixed address, was arrested at the scene and has since been charged with two counts of trying to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH), affray and threatening a person with a blade.
Detective Sergeant Harry Judge said: “Following a series of fast-paced inquiries, charges have now been authorised in this case and Toby Sousa is due to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court today (Monday 29 June).
“This incident caused significant alarm to members of the public, and we would like to thank everyone who assisted officers on the day and has since supported the wider investigation. Their assistance has been invaluable.
“Officers will continue to maintain a visible presence in the area, carrying out reassurance patrols to provide confidence to the local community.”
Sussex Police added: “Further witnesses or anyone with anything to report are asked to contact police online, or by calling 101 quoting reference 1390 of 29/06.”

How about the police having a visible presence before such events take place; they may be able to prevent them…
Pre-emptive, would include organisation, planning and lots more coppers that nobody wants to pay for via higher taxes, plus everything they need, cars, radios, uniforms, wages, pensions etc etc. Then when the crims are convicted then prisons are needed, more taxes, more officers, more wages, pensions etc etc. I don’t see any changes on the horizon, be 25 years at least.
According to their own figures Sussex police have 3316 actual officers and 258 hobby bobbies. Where are they? Surely some of these could be out patrolling the streets. Just this morning a drunken member of the street community was repeatedly weaving up and down North Street on a Beryl bike crashing into people and shouting abuse at all and sundry. A beat constable or two could have done something about it or do we wait for him to seriously injure someone before we get a police presence…
3316 over 24hrs in shifts is max 1000 available right now, minus custody officers, officers at court, officers on holiday, officers on sick leave or injured plus others booking in crims, the other 2316 are off shift, if it’s 3 shifts per day but 2 shifts per day would still only have the same numbers on daily once you factor in 5 days working week. It’s not exact numbers but their working day hours are ca the same as ours unless overtime is on.
Well said the police and local council are covering up loads of stuff going on in Brighton putting people from Brighton at risk and money and tourism before us I’ve got so many videos like hen party’s stag party’s will not come to Brighton if they knew what really goes on and as are council is in the black hole for cash we get put at risk I’m going to share and show all I have with the sun as they are the only people who will show the real Brighton
