Construction company Kier has handed over the keys to the newest school in Brighton and Hove.

And the head teacher, governors and staff of the Bilingual Primary School took a tour of the new premises on the edge of Hove Park.

Founder and chair of governors Marina Gutierrez cut a ribbon in the new school’s entrance, helped by teaching assistant Katherine Davies, who has been with the school from the start.

They were watched by fellow founding governor Javier Ruiz and head teacher Wendy King and others who have been involved in or supported the project from its inception.

The school opened in September 2012 in temporary premises at the Brighton Aldridge Community Academy (BACA) in Falmer.

Wendy King said: “I am just so excited about this school, where it is, this amazing building and our journey for the future in this community.”

Marina Gutierrez said: “This is a symbolic occasion to celebrate what has been achieved.

“It is our special day to recognise all the hard work, commitment and enthusiasm from the founders, supporters and parents alike which has turned into this school.

“We are very excited about moving to this area of the city and building good relationships with the local community.”

The children – almost 200 of them – will arrive on Thursday 25 February for their first day at the new site.

The school plans to hold an official opening ceremony after Easter.

So excited to be finally moving to our new premises. As a long term local resident and local mum of three, to have such an exciting opportunity for our children in the local area is just ace. Well done and many, many thanks to all who made it happen.

As a great-grandma of two of the pupils I am delighted with what everyone concerned with the school have achieved. Looking forward to see the new school on visitors’ day. In the meantime I wish the school, its teachers and pupils every success. Mrs E Wright
