Police are investigating claims that a woman was racially abused after a row between neighbours over a dog attack that left a pet cat dead in Hove.
Sussex Police said that anyone with information about the incident last week should contact the force.
A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Shortly after 7.30pm on Tuesday 18 July, police received a report of racially aggravated abuse in Beeding Avenue, Hangleton.
“Inquiries are ongoing at this stage and anyone with any information is asked to report it online at https://sussex.police.uk/appealresponse quoting serial 1421 of 18/07.”
The row started between the owners of two dogs and their neighbours after the dogs were reported to have killed the neighbour’s cat.
Councillor Dawn Barnett said: “I hope the police do something about it.
“The dogs should be on a lead and muzzled. People are understandably concerned.
“With children being on holiday from school, these dogs should be safe and in their garden.”
She was afraid that if dogs had killed a pet cat, they may not be secure enough and could kill or injure a child.
She was also concerned that because the victim of the alleged racist outburst was white, the police would take it less seriously.
