Circus company agrees not to bring animals to perform in Hove

Animals will not be performing at a circus when it comes to Hove seafront this summer.

A campaign to end animal performances at Zippo’s Circus, which comes to Hove Lawns every year, saw a 5,000-signature petition and Caroline Lucas, the Green MP for Brighton Pavilion, calling for a ban.

At Brighton and Hove City Council’s Tourism, Development and Culture Committee meeting today (Thursday 17 January), Councillor Alan Robins said that the company would bring a human-only circus to town.

The company will bring its Cirque Berserk show to Hove Lawns.

Councillor Robins, who chairs the tourism committee, said: “It is an entirely human circus and that means we will have no circuses using animals in Brighton and Hove.”

Hi just to be clear. Zippos has not agreed to bring animals and the Council has not asked us not to bring animals. We have decided to bring our Cirque Berserk show direct from the Edinburgh Festival to Brighton . This is designed for theatres and all human . We expect it to be very successful as is our more traditional show and will review which show we bring in 2020 in the autumn. Thank you

No animals? No point going then. Boring.
