Hove car thief jailed after 130mph chase

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after crashing into two parked cars and overturning her car in Bevendean last night (Wednesday 7 June).

The 30-year-old woman and an eight-year-old boy were treated for minor injuries at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, in Brighton, and discharged early this morning (Thursday 8 June).

Sussex Police said: “At 10.48pm on Wednesday 7 June police were called to Plymouth Avenue, Bevendean, at the junction with Dartmouth Crescent, after a car had collided with two parked cars and had turned over on to its roof.

“The driver, a 30-year-old local woman, and her passenger, an eight-year-old boy, were treated for minor injuries at the Royal Sussex County Hospital and were discharged early on Thursday morning.

“The driver has been arrested on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol, with no insurance and with no driving licence and is currently in custody for interview and further inquiries.”

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service sent two fire engines from Preston Circus, in Brighton, and said: “Crews made the scene safe. Two people were left in the care of the ambulance service.”

It was one of six car crashes dealt with by the fire service within 12 hours yesterday. They prompted a plea for drivers to take more care on the roads, look out for each other and steer clear of drink completely.

The estate has been plagued with youngsters, some underage, riding motorcycles on the roads and pavements in the area, sometimes at high speed and often without helmets.

Drivers have reported having to take avoiding action to prevent a crash.

Police were not able to say whether there was any suggestion that the crash last night had any connection to young motorcyclists.

To be fair the police are too undermanned to deal with those feral brats.

And also a policy of ending a pursuit if a moped rider/biker is at possible risk is usually in force.

Louise I totally agree ,we have a few lads around in Moulsecoomb going up and down the roads most nights or behind the houses between Birdham road and hodgshrove road ,police don’t want to no at all .. Shame we don’t have a local police on the streets anymore or do a curfew that all kids should be indoors by a certain time ,I no they do it in some places so why not here ?

Absolute idiot. Driving while drunk, uninsured and without a licence is bad enough when done on their own, but doing them all together takes a special kind of stupid.

And putting a child at risk too. Way to go love. Guess you’re missing out on ‘Parent Of The Year’ this time.

People like this always think it wontwon’t happen to them. Either that or they just don’t care. Either way, I hope she gets all that’s coming to her. Which will probably be next to nothing as I’m sure she’ll claim something or other to get out of whatever punishment is recommended.

Sorry but there’s NO excuse for what she’s done so zero sympathy from here. Just a very selfish woman who didn’t care for anyone but herself at the time. Just glad the child is OK and no-one got hurt.

Bring back our local bobbies, we never had much trouble over here when we had a beat bobby, I hope Mr. Corbyn will employ more policing on our streets.

I hope Mr. Corbyn keeps his word about bringing back more policing. When we had a beat bobby we hardly had any trouble over here in Bevendean.

Shameful !! That woman should be locked up and her child taken away. The lower bevendean area is a disgrace. Kids taking over the area on their noisy mopeds. Screaming up and down the avenue at all hours with total disregard for the safety of anyone else. The sooner I move the better

      Pregnant? Classy….

What is wrong wirh some people? I’m sure she’s be the first to rant and rave about it if someone else was that dense.

I bet all she’s worried about is getting named in the press when it goes to court and her ‘rep’ being ruined. Oh well… ‘poor’ her.

      Utterly selfish and shameful behaviour.
