Coldean Post Office is to remain permanently closed because nobody has come forward to run it.

The post office in Beatty Avenue closed last year after the postmaster resigned and the premises have now been turned into a pharmacy.

This month, Post Office announced that it has not been able to find any way of reopening it.

Andy Healey, area network change manager said: “As you may be aware the above Post Office closed last year for reasons beyond our control following the resignation of the postmaster and the withdrawal of the premises for Post Office use.

“Since then we have been exploring our options for restoring a Post Office service to our customers in the area.

“Unfortunately, we have been unable to identify a suitable solution and as there have been no suitable opportunities to re-establish a service, this branch will remain closed.

“We would of course consider any appropriate options if there are any significant changes in the area in the future.

“However due to the length of time the branch has been closed, we would need to satisfy ourselves that any new opportunity would be sustainable for both the Post Office and the operator.”

Anyone with any suggestions is asked to email comments@postoffice.co.uk or send a letter to FREEPOST Your Comments.

The nearest post offices to the Beatty Avenue branch are County Oak Post Office in Carden Avenue and the University of Sussex Post Office at Bramber House in Refectory Road.
