Lewes Road was closed on Wednesday evening by armed police after reports of a someone shooting seagulls with a gun.

The Vogue Gyrator was shut for about an hour while officers tried to find the culprit – but no shooter was found.

A police spokeswoman said: “Police responded to a report of a man shooting seagulls with a firearm from flats near Lewes Road, Brighton at 5.20pm on Wednesday (14 July).

“Officers attended and Lewes Road was temporarily closed at the Vogue Gyratory as a safety precaution.

“No suspect was identified and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

“Anyone with information, or who witnessed anything suspicious, can report it online or call 101, quoting 1185 of 14/07.”

Buses were diverted northbound along Ditchling Road and southbound up Coombe Road and down Elm Grove from about 6pm while the road was closed.

At 6.50pm, Brighton and Hove Buses tweeted to say the road had reopened.

Road was closed until 8pm. Going southbound, whatever.

Police should have made the road access only further back.

I needed that part of the road as I lived about a minute away

Not relevant to what I was trying to find, even looking for the details. Lewes Road closed just after the college/uni bridge
