Old Steine remains closed

Old Steine remains closed

The Old Steine remains closed this morning as work to resurface the road after a crash takes place.

The crash, between a lorry and a police car responding to an emergency call, happened at about 8.45am yesterday at the bottom of St James’s Street.

Because diesel was spilled, part of the road now needs to be resurfaced.

A police spokesman said: “No injures were reported and the road remains closed for repairs.

“An investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident.

“Witnesses or anyone with any information is asked to contact police online or call 101 quoting serial 325 of 04/09.”

If they could also resurface Castle Square while they are at it, I’m sure every bus user in the city would thank them profusely……

A sneaky attempt to start Valley Gardens three without notice? I wouldn’t put it past them.

That’s one way to look at it. There is also a logic that would state since the road needs repair, might as well do the upgrade work to avoid wastage, something you yourself have been a strong advocate about. Having said that, I don’t think VG3 is ready to continue yet, from what I’ve seen, so maybe?

Well like most of town – the road is already knackered. I am sure that the diesel has run off in between the cracks of the tarmac.
Eastern road now resembles an assault course, I can no longer use the bus due to the sudden jolts inflicted by it. I am now compelled to use my SUV to traverse the uneven surfaces. A bicycle would be suicidal.

Eastern Road is a bit of a special case though, as the hospital developments mean it would be a bit of a waste if they put a lot of energy an effort into that road whilst heavy construction vehicles are still in and out of their site, particularly as they start the building on the new hospital building on the corner of Upper Abbey Road/Eastern Road.

And the journey from Old Steine all the way to Moulescomb is a nightmare, with the bus constantly bumping up and down. The road is in a really terrible condition. I now go by train in that direction from Brighton to other towns.

And that would be Criminal Damage, Endangering Other Road Users, and Improper Disposal of Hazardous Substances. Bit of an extreme measure!

I sold my car and walk everywhere as the roads in Brighton and Hove are beyond dreadful.

Diesl spill your avin a laaaugh. Seen the road this report is nonsense and the huge area closed off is even bigger nonsense. Still this bit used to really jar my back on the bus, or maybe it was every bit come to think of it so happy if temporary days
