A bus caught fire by a petrol station between Brighton and Lewes yesterday (Monday 29 September).
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called at 2.09am on Monday 29 September to a large vehicle fire at a petrol station in Brighton Road, Lewes, eastbound between Lewes and Falmer.
“A bus has caught fire which was also affecting the petrol station shop.
“Four fire engines from Preston Circus, Hove and Roedean were called to the scene.”
Firefighters used two sets of breathing apparatus and two foam jets to tackle the fire.
Sussex Police attended to manage the traffic.
The fire service added: “There are no reports of any injuries.
“Please avoid the area and, if local, please keep windows and doors closed.”
The fire service added an update: “As of 3.30am, crews are using six breathing apparatus, two foam jets and one main jet to tackle the fire.
“Please continue to avoid the area and, if local, please keep windows and doors closed.”
In a later update, the fire service added: “At 3.58am, breathing apparatus was withdrawn and the aerial ladder platform was in use.
“Crews used thermal imaging cameras to monitor hot spots.
“All firefighting operations were complete by 4.58am, with crews leaving the scene by 5.07am.”
