Three men charged with rape on Brighton seafront

Three men have been charged with raping a woman on Brighton seafront and are due in court today (Thursday 16 October).

Sussex Police said this morning: “Three men have been charged in connection with the rape of a woman on Brighton beach.

“Police received a report that a woman had been raped on the lower esplanade in Brighton at around 5am on the morning of Saturday 4 October.

“An investigation was launched and the 33-year-old victim continues to be supported by specialist officers.

“Three men – Abdulla Ahmadi, 25, an Iranian national from Crewe, and Karin Al-Danasurt, 20, and Ibrahim Alshafe, 25, both Egyptian nationals from Horsham – have been arrested and each charged with two counts of rape.

“They have been remanded in custody to appear before Brighton Magistrates’ Court today.”

Detective Superintendent Andy Harbour said: “This has been a fast-paced investigation with all three suspects having been identified through thorough investigative work.

“I commend the bravery of the victim who we continue to support with specialist officers.

“I understand how distressing this incident will be for the community and our dedicated partnership operations to protect women and girls will continue in earnest.

“Three men have been remanded in custody and we are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the investigation.

    The comments are on but there are rules governing what can be published while legal proceedings are active including in the comments. Fortunately, most readers appear to appreciate this – and seem to realise that comments will be deleted if they contain personal abuse, racist remarks or incitement to violence.

    Why are the police not patrolling the beach between midnight and 5am on weekends more regularly, in plain cloths, or have some cameras set up at the very least, this is becoming a hotspot now and I’m sick of reading this time and time again. It’s grim. Hats off to the brave woman that report it

      I think you make a very important point, I suspect many people agree with you as well that we’d like to see more comprehensive monitoring of the beach for the safety of all.

    But this doesn’t fit with what our leaders or all the marches tell us; that we’re a ‘City of Sanctuary’, ‘refugees welcome’.

          How does one make that distinction when new boat arrivals throw documentation into the sea?
          How should us women make the distinction – who is safe and who is not? pray do tell.
          Or should we put up and shut up for the sake of diversity?
          I’d love to know how you think these characters could have been prevented from carrying out their ‘alleged attacks’.
