The brother of a bodyguard who terrorised his ex will be joining him behind bars for threatening to burn her house down.
Lee Warrent, 47, was jailed for subjecting his ex-wife Carole to months of harassment, including breaking into her bedroom dressed in camouflage gear, in January last year.
Just days later, his brother Michael, 40, went to her home and shouted through her letterbox: “I tell you now, you stupid slag, I will burn your house down you fucking wait.”
Although she was asleep, the rant was caught on her doorbell camera, leaving her shaken and scared he would come back and carry out his threat.
Sentencing at Lewes Crown Court today, Judge Mark Van Der Zwart said: “It’s plan that what she observed on that recording cause very significant distress.
“You were arrested and suggested to interviewing officers that you couldn’t remember doing it. You put the blame on your personality disorders.
“You continued to blame your victim for getting your brother sent to prison. As I hope you now understand, the only person to blame for your brother being sent to prison is himself.
“The court isn’t here to rake over the coals of that case.
“She was asleep in her home, just days after the culmination of what must have been very worrying court proceedings.
“The offence of intimidation strikes at the heart of the criminal justice system by discouraging victim to come forward.
“Victims must be assured that they will have the protection of the courts if they do so.”
He sentenced Warrent to 14 months for intimidating a witness, and eight months for threatening to destroy or damage property, both to run concurrently.
Warrent, of Warbleton Close, Brighton, who pleaded guilty at the first opportunity, was also given a restraining order preventing him from contacting Carole Warrent either directly or indirectly for five years.
The terms of the order also prevent him from posting about her on social media.
