Here is the news … Clive Myrie to speak at Chamber’s Brighton Summit

Clive Myrie

BBC TV news presenter and Mastermind quiz master Clive Myrie has agreed to give the closing speech at the Brighton Summit next month.

Summit organiser Brighton and Hove Chamber of Commerce said: “Hear from one of the BBC’s most recognisable journalists at Brighton Summit: What if?

“Our closing keynote speaker is BAFTA winning journalist Clive Myrie.

“In his 30 years with the BBC, Clive Myrie has reported from more than 90 countries, most recently from Ukraine, Israel and the West Bank.

“He’s the BBC’s chief news correspondent, although equally at home hosting Mastermind, guest presenting Have I Got News For You or appearing in travel documentaries.

“Clive will reflect on how his upbringing in Bolton shaped his perspective and fuelled his drive to tell the world’s stories.

“Born to Jamaican parents of the Windrush generation, central to his story is his mother’s resilience – a qualified teacher whose skills were dismissed when she arrived in Britain – and the quiet sacrifices of migrants like her.

“He’ll reflect on his life, his work and why journalism is, and always will be, so important – and how this is particularly true when it comes to reporting on conflicts.

“He’ll talk about his belief throughout all of this that everything is connected and, that even through turmoil, there is always room for hope.”

The Chamber said: “Each year, we focus on a theme to help frame the event. This year, it will be ‘What If?’

“So, think adventure, hope, change, transformation, positivity, innovation and invigoration.

  • What if you launched that start-up at 55?
  • What if you said ‘hello’ to that person across the room?
  • What if you applied for that job?
  • What if you rebranded your business?

“It’s a theme we hope will get you thinking like you’ve never thought before. Perhaps it’ll prompt you to reflect on what’s possible.

“Maybe it’ll encourage you to re-evaluate your comfort zone. Or even inspire you to change your approach to doing business.”

The Brighton Summit is due to take place at the Corn Exchange on Thursday 6 November.
