‘Spectrum is green’ at the Brighton Museum tonight (7th December) – Limited tickets available

Spectrum: Winter Special at the Brighton Museum with Emma Gatrill / Sharon Lewis / M. Butterfly / Nature TV / The Fiction Aisle / Hui Hue

Tomorrow night (Thursday 7 December) will finally see the arrival of the Spectrum winter special in the surrounds of the Brighton Museum.

Throughout the evening listen to a host of 20-minute unplugged performances within the exhibition rooms.

Emma Gatrill

Emma Gatrill (performing roughly 8.50pm & 10.05pm) is a multi-instrumentalist based in Brighton, UK. Her debut, Chapter I, in 2012 was a poignant collection of songs based around her then-latest acquisition – the harp.

Subtly accompanied by various members of Brighton’s Willkommen Collective, her intricate harp playing coupled with a unique vocal fragility drew comparisons to Björk and Joni Mitchell as well as her friends and co-conspirators Rachael Dadd and Rozi Plain.

Sharon Lewis

Sharon Lewis (formerly of the female duo Pooka) (performing roughly 8.25pm & 9.40pm) is much revered for her haunting vocals and poignant lyrics. She will be performing songs from her recent album Roses At The Top.

Accompanying herself on piano, guitar and ukulele, Sharon’s spellbinding music has been described as strong medicine for the soul with songs that resonate as deeply as ancient hymns.

M. Butterfly (Martyn Lewis)

M. Butterfly (performing roughly 8.25pm & 9.40pm) is the alias of Martyn Lewis, a country singer from Brighton. His songs are intimate and simple with intensely personal lyrics, singing about depression, death, love and sexuality.

Nature TV

Nature TV (performing roughly 8.50pm & 10.05pm) blend intricate soul and R’n’B influenced vocals over warbly guitars interspersed with elements of Lo-fi and world music. Underpinned by a tight 70s soaked rhythm section, the band aim to lay down only the smoothest of jams.

Hui Hue

Hui Hue (performing roughly 8pm & 9.15pm) is a self taught singer/songwriter who has been influenced by folk artists and storytellers from around the world.

Hui writes very intimately, sharing tales of lost innocence and a difficult childhood, but with it she brings in a sense of joy, light and hope. Her music has been described as haunting, peaceful and brave.

Fiction Aisle (Thomas White)

The Fiction Aisle (performing roughly 8pm & 9.15pm) is the project from Brighton-based musician/songwriter Thomas White. Formed in 2014 as a solo studio venture, it takes cues from a myriad influences – Noël Coward, Alison Goldfrapp, Irving Berlin and Broadcast.
