Brighton’s most tuneful run opens for entries and looks for headline sponsor

Brighton Run2Music joins forces with three charities

Brighton’s most musical run has opened for entries for its second year next year and has put a shout out for a headline sponsor.

The Brighton Run2Music is also expanding to include not just a 5K run but 10K and half marathon (21K) distances.

The event has been described as “the fun race which offers participants the chance to dress up as their favourite musical icon and run to music”.

The team behind the Brighton Run2Music also organise the Brighton and Hove Triathlon, with a number of the team having worked on Olympic and Paralympic events.

Race director John Lunt said: “We would love to get a title partner on board who has a real synergy with Brighton and music – maybe one of the music or performing arts schools or a local company looking for more exposure. We have a number of different partnership opportunities available.”

Mr Lunt added: “The Brighton Run2Music is about offering local residents a really fun event which the whole family can be involved in.

“It’s about inspiring people to get active in a relaxed environment while combining two of Brighton’s biggest loves – music and running.”

“Last year we had parents with their toddlers in prams racing the 5K with wigs and blow-up instruments. Other runners were dressed as the Spice Girls, Elvis and even Harry and Meghan.

“We encourage people to be as colourful and entertaining as possible and the best dressed gets a prize.”

One of the participants from last year said: “I had such fun on the day. There was a really positive energy among all participants and trying to guess people’s fancy dress was very amusing. To have great music playing loud while running was really motivating.”

The race starts in Madeira Drive where participants will be entertained by a DJ and other musical acts before starting their race.

Giant music speakers will line the route which will include a run or two – depending on the chosen distance – up Duke’s Mound, and down again, and along Madeira Drive.

Live acts and bands will perform at points along the course. All the races will be timed.

Every participant will receive a race t-shirt and medal. A number of local charities are expected to be involved.

The Brighton Run2Music is due to take place on Saturday 11 May next year. It is an event for all ages and fitness levels – and participants can run, walk or dance the route.
