Rockinghorse named official charity partner of Brighton Marathon

Rockinghorse has been named as an official charity partner of the 2011 Brighton Marathon, which is set to take place next year on Sunday 10 April.

The children’s charity has a number of places available for the 26-mile challenge and registration is now open to anyone wishing to run for Rockinghorse and raise money to help make life better for sick and disabled children across Sussex and Surrey.

This year’s marathon proved a huge success for the charity, with close to 200 runners taking part and raising almost £200,000 for the cause, with money still filtering in. Brighton and Hove Albion Chairman Tony Bloom crossed the finish line in 3 hours 57 minutes and has already brought in well over £100k in sponsorship for the charity.

Bloom’s sponsorship alone will enable building work to get underway for a new extension at Tudor House Respite Centre near Preston Park, which will allow more space for children who attend the centre to take part in activities. The remainder of the funding will be split according to need across Rockinghorse’s other projects, which include hospitals and respite centres across the region.

Emma Millar, Challenge Events Fundraiser, said: “we are overwhelmed by the lengths our runners have gone to in order to raise money for Rockinghorse and we cannot thank them enough for their support.

“The money raised will have a huge impact on helping children at our projects, especially Tudor House. Race places get filled up quickly, so please get in touch to ensure entry into next year’s Brighton Marathon.”

The charity will be offering its runners a great deal of support in the lead up to the race and will hold training days throughout the year, where professionals will be on-hand to give participants top tips before the big day. Rockinghorse will also organise a post-race reception for entrants to celebrate their achievement amongst friends and family.

There is no registration fee, but runners must commit to raising £500 in sponsorship for the charity.
