MPs blow their own hoover at Brighton Festival

The city’s three MPs became honorary members of the Brighton Youth Orchestra last night when they took on the role of hooverists for a special Brighton Festival concert.

The orchestra roped in Hove MP Peter Kyle, Brighton Pavilion MP Caroline Lucas and Brighton Kemptown MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle to play the Henry Hoover for its final piece, Malcolm Arnold’s Grand Grand Overture, which features three hoovers, four rifles and a floor polisher.

What are you up to this evening? @CarolineLucas @lloyd_rm and I are the pivotal part of the Brighton Youth Orchestra performance….playing a Hoover

Mr Russell-Moyle said: “We were a musical accompaniment to the frankly amazing Brighton Youth Orchestra who entertained us all with their music.

“Many young people had exams the next day but performed of a high standard despite @peterkyle, @CarolineLucas and my playing the hoovers in the last piece of the night.”

And the conductor is still smiling by the end so it can’t have been that bad (or maybe he’s smiling because it *is* the end). Perhaps we’d better stick to politics … @peterkyle @lloyd_rm #Brighton #Brightfest pic.twitter.com/WN1ad9FL9z

The programme for the concert at All Saints Church also features Hummel’s Piano Concerto, Arias from Great Operas and Midnight Skaters for Bass and Orchestra by Peter Copley.

All 3 MPs voted in a failed attempt to restrict free speech last week in another attack on the press. Why aren’t you reporting this? It could easily end up affecting you (and your readers), and they’re going to try again. If they succeed in nobbling the big newspaper publishers, it’ll be easier to silence people like you and me with our Facebook and Twitter accounts. Enemies of freedom everywhere will celebrate if they get their way.
