A disability charity is appealing for anyone who can donate phones, tablets or computers after its offices were burgled last week.
The Kemp Town offices of Possability People, who run the city’s only specialist advice centre for disabled people, were broken into earlier this month, and a laptop, tablet, mobile phone and postage stamps stolen.
Geraldine Des Moulins, Possability People’s Chief Officer said: “We couldn’t believe it at first; why would anyone rob a charity? But they have, and staff responded quickly and calmly, identifying the missing items.
“Fortunately, we work hard with our IT provider to make sure all our computer and digital equipment is encrypted, so while we’re upset at the financial loss, we know there has been no data breach, which is the most important thing.”
“While the break in hasn’t stopped us from getting on with our day to day work, losing the computer and tablet means that a couple of our volunteers can’t help so effectively at the moment. And the telephone that was stolen was used as our text phone for deaf people. So it is a nuisance.”
A police spokeswoman said: “Police received a report of a burglary at Possability People, Montague Place, Brighton at 10.20am on Monday 2 March.
“Items including a laptop and a tablet were reported stolen.
“The break-in is believed to have happened between 5pm on Friday, 28 February, and 9am on Monday, 2 March.
“Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious or has any information is asked to report online or call 101, quoting serial 344 of 02/03.”
Any companies with spare mobile telephones, tablets or laptops that are surplus to requirements they would like to donate can call Geraldine Des Moulins on 01273 894040 or email geraldine@possabilitypeople.org.uk.
