I’m still standing! Election candidate speaks out after hustings rumour

Emma Wall

A general election candidate has spoken out after rumours spread at a hustings that she was no longer standing.

Emma Wall, an Independent, was not present at the hustings because, she said, that she was not invited. She said: “I had no idea that there was a hustings last night.”

But the Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven candidate has been asked to take part in a hustings at the Saltdean Lido next Tuesday (18 June) and plans to be there.

Ms Wall, 56, a small businesswoman, said that the present system did not serve people, adding: “I don’t like Punch and Judy politics.”

She said that she was keen to find common ground, promoting peace and working with others.

The past few years had been very disturbing, she said, and the political situation did not seem friendly, with “one rule for us” for those running the country.

Emma Wall

Ms Wall said: “Should I be elected, I will be inviting more involvement in the political system from my constituents.”

She said that she would

  • hold people’s assemblies
  • canvass the opinions of constituents
  • use e-polling
  • host regular talks and debates, online and in person

She also said that she shared the goals of the Trailblazers Movement. For more information, click here.

A lovely lady who truly has citizens’ interests at heart. Which probably means she stands no chance of being elected but very best of luck to her I say! The glass ceiling to break through nowadays is not gender, but all the corruption in politics.

Should always respect the bravery to stand up to represent, regardless of if you agree with their politics or not.

I quite like what she says here, however, I also feel her ambitions are already about to happen or are happening for most, which may suggest either unambitious goals for easy wins, or not having her finger on the pulse.

Although, I agree that hostile politics is outdated, and working together is far more agreeable then conflict for the sake of it because people sit of different parties. One of the boons of independency, it seems, is that is default!

She’s a businesswoman. At last here is somebody that knows what we are up against.

Has anyone yet looked at the Green manifesto? It’s a joke. Anti-business, not worth working hard or running a business, because you are only allowed to earn £50,270 before they super-tax you. I presume they represent, and consist of, desk-sitters at the council (“working” from home).
Scrap tuition fees, which is again anti-working.
Pour money into the NHS, when it actually needs fixing by rebuilding from the bottom up.
And scrap Trident, but stay in Nato – ignoring that Nato membership requires contribution, which is Trident. How thick is that!

Thank God for independent candidates. Anyone voting Green must be very dim.

My personal opinion is that Green represents an ideology that pragmatically improves to Labour when you apply practicality and a grounded approach to it.
