Buses running through the centre of Brighton were affected by gas leak repairs for a second day today.

Hundreds of buses were unable to stop at some of the town’s busiest stops opposite Churchill Square shopping centre in Western Road.

Brighton and Hove Buses laid on extra staff to help people find their way to the correct bus stop as half a dozen bus shelters were taped off.

No time has been given for when the work of repairing the gas leak will be finished.

The bus company has posted various changes on posters in the affected area and on its website. They include the following.

Services 1, 1A, 2, 2A, 5, 5A, 5B, 20X, 25, 46, 49, 49A, 81, 81B and 81C will stop at Clarence Square then run non-stop to North Street.

Service 6 will stop at Clarence Square then in Queen’s Road.

Services 12, 12A, 12C, 12X, 13X, 14, 14B and 14C will stop at the top of North Street, just below Boots.

Services 21B, 22, 24, 26, 28, 29, 29A, 29B, 29C, 50 and 81A (also Countryliner Service 40) will stop outside Pizza Hut in Dyke Road (opposite Imperial Arcade).

Stagecoach Service 17 and Metrobus Service 273 will terminate at Old Steine and not serve Churchill Square.

Stagecoach Service 700 will operate into Brighton direct via the Coast Road and return via Churchill Square.

Night Buses N25, N97, N98 and N99 will serve their normal stops at Churchill Square.
