A couple who built a shed in the front garden of their home in Hove have been told to knock it down.
Giuseppe and Sarah Colasurdo, of Sackville Road, Hove, built the brick shed without planning permission.
They have been served with an enforcement notice by Brighton and Hove City Council ordering them to remove the shed.
The council said: “The property is in the Old Hove Conservation Area which contains many late19th and early 20th century houses.
“Number 33 is part of a row of buff brick houses described in the conservation area statement as ‘a particularly good terrace’.
“The shed is visually inappropriate to the historic street scene due to its setting, design and the materials used to construct it.
“Despite several requests by planning officers that the shed should be removed, owners Giuseppe and Sarah Colasurdo have so far failed to do, leaving no alternative but to issue an enforcement notice.”
Councillor Lynda Hyde, chairman of Brighton and Hove’s planning committee, said: “The action shows that the council is committed to preserving and enhancing the city’s conservation areas.
“In this case officers encouraged the owners to remove the shed without the need for a formal enforcement notice to be issued but the advice was ignored.”
