Brighton armed robbery suspect due in court
A labourer from Brighton is due to appear in court this morning charged with trying to carry out an armed robbery at a Brighton convenience store.
Richard Slater, 62, of Walmer Crescent, Bevendean, has been charged with attempted robbery and having a knife after the attempted robbery of a shop on the morning of Sunday 21 October.
Slater is accused of going into the Coombe Road Convenience Store at about 7.30am and threatening the shopkeeper with a knife.
The prosecution is expected to say that the 44-year-old shopkeeper fought off Slater who left empty-handed.
He is due to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court this morning (Tuesday 20 November).
